Dennie Boxem made a modern edition of the ancient story Saint Micheal and the Dragon and ±250 people contributed to it. The archangel has been Zwolle’s patron since the early middle ages. He protects Zwolle from evil, that has always been depicted as a Dragon. The bodies of the two rivals are covered in tattoos and tell stories of good versus evil.
The making of the team-artwork started at Bruisweken Zwolle where ±150 students contributed. After this festival the painting was brought to Sint Micheals church (Academiehuis – Grote Kerk Zwolle) where tens of visitors joined in. On the 10th of October 2019, the Dutch national Day of Sustainability, Dutch writer, scientist, former politician and climate activist Jan Terlouw (1931-) contributed to the painting. After his lecture about climate change visitors painted words of hope on Sint Michaels wings. It was finished at the University of Applied Science Windesheim, where several classes added a contribution.
The names of all participant are written on the back of the artwork.
